A rigorous uncertainty estimation on the X ray fluence spectrum determined with a spectrometer
This Research Mobility Support successfully combined the spectrometry expertise of the RMS researcher with the knowledge of the Guestworking Organisation on Monte Carlo techniques in radiation transport simulations and calculation of uncertainties.
An uncertainty budget was successfully determined for a high purity germanium spectrometer for calculation of the half value layer (HVL) and conversion coefficients (CCs).
The results of this work are of interest to the Employing Organisation due to its participation and coordination in TraMeXI and GuideRadPROS EURAMET research projects.
The results provide valuable additional data for update of the relevant standards, such as ISO 4037. It also provides a methodology to perform uncertainty estimates for spectrometry for other laboratories. Moreover, findings and conclusions have a straightforward impact on routine dosimetry and ionising radiation metrology, contributing to improved overall accuracy in dosimetry.
